Michael closed the door of his adoptive parents house for the last time. Now was the time to make his way in the world.
He was to transfer to his firm’s sister company in South Wales. It was a long way from Scotland but he felt that he needed his own space.
As far as he was aware, he had never been to Wales before, but he felt that he had come home. He knew that he was adopted when he was three. His birth parents had been killed in a car crash, which he had survived, but had been left with both physical and mental scarring. He couldn’t remember anything else.
He first noticed Sally when she was serving in the works canteen. He felt an immediate connection with her. He became a regular visitor, always going back for second helpings as an excuse to talk to her.
After three weeks he plucked up the courage to ask her out.
She turned him down gently.
He decided that she hadn’t really meant it, and persisted in asking her out on every occasion he saw her. He spent most of his wages buying her flowers. He would spend hours writing her poetry.
She soon was fed up of all his pestering, and told her adoptive father, who was the boss of the factory about her problem.
Michael was called into the office.
“If you don’t persist in this harassing of my daughter, we’ll issue a Restraining Order against you. That will mean you losing your job here. It’s up to you.”
Michael was aghast.
“But we’re soul mates. She is the girl I’ve dreamt of all my life.”
“I’ll make this very clear. Sally has told me that she wants nothing to do with you. You’re under a delusion. Either leave her alone or there’s the door.”
He left the office and went to find Sally to profess his undying love to her.
He heard her laugh in the distance, as he approached the canteen. On turning the corner, he saw her in the arms of a colleague. He felt the red mist descending and struck out and punched him so hard that he fell to the floor.
Rather than Sally thanking him for protecting her, she rushed to the man’s aid.
The Restraining Order didn’t stop how he felt about her. There was the same magnetic pull as when they first met.
He knew that he was bonded to her for life and that he couldn’t live without her any longer, if he couldn’t have her then no one else was going to. He waylaid her one night on her way home. He pretended to be contrite, to make her listen. Then after bundling her into his van, he drove back to Scotland,
He killed her the same night, and ate her flesh. This way he knew they could never be parted.
The Jury heard how the inexplicable link between the twins, lead to Sally’s death.
