Mia opened her large green eyes, twitched her delicate nose, stretched her sinewy long body. Smelling breakfast, she padded along the thick carpet into the kitchen.
As with every other day eating her food, a noise distracted her. Jumping up she raced to the window. Gazing out HE appeared, strutting along. Her heartbeat raced. How she longed to meet. He was so big and strong, seeing off any rivals who dared to encroach on his territory.
Mia imagined wrapping herself around him, having fun with him, just being with him. She was so sure he was the one for her. Problem being she wasn’t allowed out. She had begged and nagged to be allowed out, to no avail. All she could do was watch from the window.
This situation had gone on for as long as she could remember. Dreaming of him made her unsettled without really knowing why; just an ache in her heart. There had to be a way.
Planning in her mind, there had been occasions when it might have succeeded but always they caught her at the last minute. Lounging along the window sill dreamily thinking of how wonderful it would be to be outside.
Several days later another chance came. The kitchen door had blown open. With her heart in her mouth she raced through the gap, tumbling down the steps. Sprinting across the garden, he appeared. She stopping gazing at him, her dream come true.
Strutting towards her, his back arched, he growled at her. Mia cowed down, this wasn’t supposed happen. Like a bolt of lightning he was on her, not lovingly but the height of aggression, his claws out his, full weight was on her. Struggling, she felt him bite her, claw her. Terrified Mia was caught with no escape, fur flying everywhere their bodies entwined Mia thought her life was at an end.
Water suddenly engulfed them. He shot up, growling but backing off, watching her owner advancing. Mia used that moment to run, shivering she bolted for the door and safety. Once inside she hid, her heart racing. How could she have been so wrong? Feeling crushed, she would never go outside again. Licking her wounds carefully, crying softly, her owner found her holding her gently set about cleaning her up.
